A medical imaging provider’s de-identified studies.
A specialist provider working with clinics and health systems turned de-identified imaging studies into a seven-figure revenue line within a year, using an aggregator to reach buyers it could not reach alone.
Net new revenue in under a year, through a licensing marketplace
- Seller
- A US medical imaging dataset provider sourcing from clinics and health systems
- Buyers
- Leading AI research teams and foundation model developers, unnamed
- What was licensed
- De-identified, HIPAA-compliant imaging studies, including X-rays and DICOM files, paired with radiology reports and clinical notes
- Structure
- Multi-year licenses through an aggregator that packages many partners’ data under one buyer contract
- Timeline
- Delivery reduced from the six to twelve months typical in healthcare to about a week
- Comparable
- A national broadcaster earned more than $1M in six months through the same aggregator on a revenue-share basis. Another marketplace reports several data partners each earning more than $1M a year
What happened
A medical imaging dataset provider had spent years collecting de-identified studies from clinics and health systems, but selling to AI developers directly was slow. Healthcare data deals typically took six to twelve months to deliver.
In 2025 it joined a data licensing marketplace that aggregates many partners’ data into packages a single AI buyer can license under one contract. Within a year the provider reported seven figures of net new revenue, with delivery times cut to about a week and further deals in the pipeline.
The same marketplace reported that a national broadcaster crossed $1 million in licensing income within six months of joining, on a revenue-share basis, and a competing marketplace said several of its data partners now earn more than $1 million a year each.
Why buyers paid
Paired records. Each imaging study came with the radiology report and clinical notes that describe it. For a model developer, an image with an expert’s written interpretation is worth far more than the image alone. De-identification and HIPAA compliance were already done, so buyers could sign quickly.
What it means for your company
Mid-sized holders reach buyers through intermediaries. The provider did not have a relationship with a frontier AI lab. The aggregator did, and it packaged the provider’s data alongside others so the lab could sign once.
The figure also shows that seven-figure outcomes are not limited to household names. A specialist with well-organized, rights-clean, paired records earned it in under a year. That is the profile we look for: documented work, with the outcome or interpretation recorded alongside it.
Reported in the licensing marketplace’s published partner case studies (2025 and 2026) and its January 2026 funding announcement, and in a competing marketplace’s January 2026 press release.
